Twaweza
Swahili — “We Can Do It”
We believe in the power of young people to overcome challenges, support each other, and create change. Twaweza is a youth-centred programme designed to build resilience, mental wellness, leadership skills, and community support for young people navigating life's challenges.
“Because we can do it.”
The Challenge
Why Twaweza?
Young people today face unique pressures — academic stress, suicidal thoughts and mental health struggles, family challenges, identity exploration, and societal expectations. Twaweza exists to create a safe, empowering, and supportive space where youth can find hope, connection, and the strength to live life fully.
What We Offer
Four interconnected pillars designed to meet young people where they are — providing mental wellness, leadership, crisis support, and mentorship.
Mental Health & Well-Being Support
We prioritise mental health by creating spaces where young people can express themselves and access support:
- Peer Support Circles – Safe spaces for young people to talk, share, and heal together
- Art & Expression Therapy – Using music, writing, and visual arts for emotional release
- Mindfulness & Self-Care – Teaching stress management and emotional regulation techniques
Leadership & Life Skills Training
Twaweza empowers youth with skills to lead with confidence and navigate life's challenges:
- Youth Leadership Workshops – Equipping young people with confidence, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
- Community Impact Projects – Encouraging youth to take part in social change initiatives
Crisis Intervention & Suicide Prevention
Crucial support during times of crisis — ensuring young people have tools to seek help when most needed:
- 24/7 Crisis Helpline – Immediate support for youth in distress
- Suicide Prevention & Awareness – Training young people to recognise and respond to mental health crises among peers
- One-on-One Counselling – Free and confidential therapy sessions with trained professionals
Youth Mentorship Programme
The Twaweza Fellowship connects youth with mentors who offer guidance, support, and inspiration:
- Empowering Stories & Role Models – Real-life success stories from young people who overcame adversity
- Peer-to-Peer Mentorship – Building a strong support system within the youth community
